In the picture, on the
web site, from which I purchased these shoes they appeared to be black and
white, not beige and brown as they are in reality. Given my loathing of
creating packages and making trips to the post office about 3 years went by and
they were still in my possession, complete
with the paper and stick portion of the packaging.
They are cute shoes but with black clothes
and silver accessories…well not so much. Our dress code at work is black, white
and/or gray (for me that means black). The rules of the game say I must re-home,
re-purpose or wear all of the shoes I have and therefore in spite of my
desire never to wear clashing attire and given that I failed in my attempt to
re-home them they became "Day 11" of "The Great Shoe
Experiment".
They had not fallen
victim to dry rot due to attic temperatures, like several other pairs of
hardly worn shoes but they were covered in brown stains for which there is
no logical explanation, unless perhaps the discoloration had something to do
with attic temperatures vs linen and glue. I spent too much time
with vinegar, baking soda and a toothbrush trying to get the stains
off of these shoes, that I did not even want to wear, so that I could wear them
because (A). rules of the experiment, and (B). it must be some kind of a sacrilege
to throw out unused, cute, high heel, shoes.
The day I finally wore them they were complemented at every
turn, which made me feel a bit better about the time I spent trying to clean
them, even though there remnants of brown stains left behind. The complements also helped a bit with the concern I had over
my mis-matchy-ness (sometimes the best words are the ones you make up).
They really did not work at all with black nails and a little metal skull
around my neck but I did it anyway. I spent the day explaining how the shoes
had nothing to do with anything but I was rolling with it. No one seemed to
think that was bad.
Like my
other vegetarian friendly, cute high heals, these shoes get a comfort
rating of 3 and may have been the reason I finally put a pair of flip
flops in my trunk. I had an errand to run in the city at the end of
"day 11"... and had to walk a few blocks... and they had stretched to
the point of mimicking flip flops... and the pain was pushing unbearable.
It became clear that even IF I had managed to look cool that day (like I had
some new weird fashion thing going on) wearing my linen and brown,
gold buckle having, high heel shoes WITH my black and silver, chain embellished top,
black nails and a little metal skull around my neck, that by the time I was
hobbling down a city street, in a one hell of a mismatched get up, with my
shoes flopping off of my heel, stopping to re-adjust my shoes every three feet,
while wincing in pain, well frankly all traces of cool were out the window and
I just looked like an idiot! #Cuteshoes though! :D
